- Abstract
- The apparent consumption of industrial explosives and breaking agents in the United States during 1970 totaled 2,393 million pounds, an increase of 8 percent over 1969, according to the Bureau of Mines, United States Department of the Interior. The gain to a new record annual consumption in 1970 resulted principally from the increased use of "other processed blasting agents and unprocessed ammonium nitrate." There also was a gain in consumption of "Rigidly-cartridged" blasting agents, but use of the other categories of explosives and blasting agents was indicated to be at about the same level or below the 1969 data. During 1970, the consumption of all blasting agents represented 86 percent of the grand total usage of all kinds.
