- Abstract
- Fleet experience in submarine hull insulation fires and closed chamber fire testing at the Naval Research Laboratory of the current MIL-P-15280 PVC nitrile rubber hull insulation has shown a pressing need to replace the current insulation system. In 1981 a new large scale fire test facility came on line, FIRE-I. This 324 m(3) (11,400 ft. (3)) pressurizable chamber contains numerous radiation, temperature, pressure and gas analysis sensors which are under computer control.
