- The U. S. Department of Energy and the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, as part of a program to facilitate the safe use of wood as an alternative energy source, has sponsored studies at the Center for Fire Research (CFR) of the National Bureau of Standards to investigate the fire safety of wood-burning appliances used for space heating in single-family dwellings and similar small-scale applications.
