Abstract
Many protection agencies in North American have transferred the information contained in their numerous forest fire reports to computer cards or magnetic tape. With data in this form, a computer can be used to produce summaries such as means, variances, frequency distributions and cross classifications with relatively little effort. This report describes a Fortran computer program that was designed to produce information useful for the evaluaiton and planning of the agency's fire detection system. The existing version of the program places a great deal of emphasis on the evaluaiton of lookout effectiveness. The forest district for which this summary was designed was considering the closing down of some of their 32 lookouts in favor of visual air patrol.
