- ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH Referring church roofs and roofs of buildings that have to be judged under the aspects of protection of buildings, its parts and the kept values, the possibility of fire spread at the inner side of a roof or through a roof is decisive. The upper chesure of churches - ceiling and roof trusses - are much more delicate than their massive walls in respect to fire protection and therefore the weak points of churches. In this report the fire risk comming from church roofs is described. Hereby a short survey about the history of church roofs is described, the fire behavior of trusses and roofing of churches explained, the course of fires of churches roofs analysed and operation experience based on fire reports summarized. Necessary preventive fire safety instructions in churches are pointed out.
