roof operations; TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR VERTICAL VENTILATION (ROOF VENTILATION): 1.Remain on the ground, unless you are assigned or invited to the roof. 2. Only morons go up without a scabbard and axe or a safety strap. 3. On a parapet wall, place straight ladder(s) down to the roof. 4. Fools jump off a ladder onto the roof without sounding first. 5. Stay in line; don't "cross-country" (to and from your cut). 6. Aggressively sound the roof in a wide path (left, center and right). 7. Fall-in if you cut over the fire on lightweight construction. 8. Ensure communications with interior crews. 9. Trained firefighters only should be assigned to vertical ventilation. 10. Your successful escape relies on a minimum of two ladders.
