- Abstract
- The 8th Edition of the Fire & Emergency Services Self-Assessment Manual continues the growth and development of the best industry model for assessing an emergency service agency's capabilities to identify community specific hazards and risks, and to plan and deploy an integrated systems approach to managing those risks. The new manual includes updated guidelines for the self assessment process and an overview of the process for conducting community risk analysis. The base categories of self-assessment stay the same, but criteria and individual performance indicators underwent a significant update to reflect the complex nature of a modern and credible emergency service agency. The data and information collection guide was also updated to include new behaviors, documentation, and exhibits, along with an updated bibliography to be used as a reference guide. This is an invaluable tool for all departments regardless of whether you are currently pursuing accredited agency status. The model identifies and defines the things which a 21st Century fire department should be doing. Agencies beginning their self assessment process in 2010 will be required to reference the 8th edition.
