- Abstract
- This manual is a joint product of the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) Center for Rire Research. The program, initiated in 1975, has most recently focused on a wide variety of factors affecting life safety in board and care homes. This specific project was funded through an NBS grant (No. NB81-NADA2024) to the Departmane of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland. Dr. John L. Bryan served as the project director. The true extent of the fire problem in board and care homes is unknown, but several multirfatality fires in recent years indicate that immediate corrective action is needed. The appropriate agency and regulatory response necessarily takes time. Meanwhile, this manual should assist persons taking immediate action to improve fire safety in board and care homes.
