- Abstract
- This report contains the results of a full scale simulated shipboard fire test conducted at the Fire Fighter's School, Naval Damage Control Training Center, Philadelphia, PA, to determine the relative durability, in fire, of a molded nylon fastener and two types of steel fasteners for fibrous glass hull insulation board. The nylon fasteners are much less resistant to destruction by fire than the standard nut-washer or the newer "Shakeproof" type in that they melt and degenerate prior to failure of the fibrous glass insulation. The "Shakeproof" and standard fasteners are approximately equal in their resistance to fire.
