Abstract
Analysis of the pyrolysis zone chemistry in diffusion flames has been limited in part by the lack of non-intrusive probes for measuring the concentrations of large molecules. Laser induced fluorescence has proved to be a useful tool for monitoring most diatomics important in combustion, but with a few exceptions it is not a practical technique for detecting larger species.
