- Abstract
- The use of nonexplosive combustible components in the composition of exothermic mixtures--powdered aluminum and silicocalcium, not containing particles less than 50 mum in size, granulated aluminum, pieces of aluminum filings and other aluminum containing materials--because of the increase in the particle size and corresponding decrease in the specific surface of the combustible material leads to a reduction in the rate of heat liberation, an increase in the combustion temperature, a decrease in the rate of combustion of the mixture on the metal surface, and a reduction in he rate of slag formation. All of this may reduce the quality of the metal, especially in the case of small ingots.
