- Abstract
- This project explores design issues involved in the performance-based design of a 40 story, mixed-use group office building, per case study specifications. Topics addressed include documentation of performance-based design, a historical summary of high-rise office fires, and prescriptive and performance-based designs. The performance-based design inlcudes three major components: elevator egress in high-rise office buildings, combination of the domestic and sprinkler rises, and the addition of new sensor and alarm technologies. Finally, a first-order cost/benefit comparison between the prescriptive and performance-based design is included.
