- Sixteen recreational boat fire and explosion casualties occurring during the summer of 1970 were thoroughly investigated by two Coast Guard Officers. The cases studied were screened and selected based on preliminary information received from Coast Guard field units located at the scene of the casualties. The study inlcudes cases from all parts of the Continental United States and covered a wide variety of gasoline-powered boats. The report does not identify specific cases by name, manufacturer, location, or time.
