- Abstract
- The importance of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in soot formation has yet to be fully determined. The C/H ratios of these molecules are between those of typical hydrocarbons and the final soot particles, as shown in Fig. 1. In addition, their structure closely resembles the graphitic morphology observed for collected soot. Thus, PAH are attractive candidates for precursor molecules and/or building blocks in the soot formation process.
