Abstract
[ONLY ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH] The Kushiro-oki earthquake occurred on January 15, 1993. The seismic intensity VI (JMA Scale) was observed at Kushiro City, where considerable damage to harbor facilities, structures, and life lines occurred besides several fires. We investigated the emergency summons at the earthquake by questionnaire survey to the professional and volunteer firemen in Kushiro City. This study, based on the information from the questionnaire survey, reports the actual conditions of the emergency summons by professional and volunteer firemen, such as the distance between their homes and the place to assemble, time from departure till arrival, means of transportation, information collection in the course of reporting for duty, etc. Also, the inquiry results are compared with those for the drill in Kawasaki City to have been analyzed. The comparison points out that it took much shorter time for most professional and volunteer firemen to report for duty in the case of the Kushiro-oki earthquake. It is mainly due to both the shorter distance between the personnels homes and the place to assemble and the use of car to report for duty in Kushiro City, a 200,000-populated local core city, unlike Kawasaki City which is a big city in the metropolitan area. Besides, the personnels obtained some disaster information like fires, structural damage, etc. This fact shows the possibility of collecting of disaster information by personnels on the way to the meeting places.
