- Abstract
- Variation in the boric acid to sodium tetraborate ratio in carefully prepared samples of cellulose fibre insulation has been shown to afford a systematic variation in fire test properties. At a total chemical content of 20% and using the Canadian Tunnel Test, boric acid-rich samples yield acceptable flame spread ratings. As the mixture approaches a 1:1 ratio this acceptable rating is lost, only to be regained as the mixture becomes sodium tetraborate-rich.
