Abstract
The number of fires rose from 23,435 in 1971 to 26,102 in 1972. This increase produced a fire incident rate of 333.6 The Ontario rate for 1971 bettered the Canadian rate by 35.6. The total monetary loss from fire decreased by $2,799,266 and the Ontario loss per capita also fell from $10.50 in 1971 to $10.13, when the Canadian loss per capita was $10.98. The loss of $11,335,592 for the 27 large loss fires accounted for 14.3% of the total dollar loss. The average loss per fire was $3,020.
