Abstract
Perfluoropropylene epoxide was prepared and its polymerization using both activated carbon and cesium fluoride examined. Reaction of the epoxide with perfluoropropylene in the presence of cesium fluoride gives perfluoro(ethyl isopropyl ketone). Methods of purification of crude epoxide have been examined. Ultraviolet catalyzed reaction of the crude mixture with bromine in the gas phase appears to be the most effective method. Reaction of hexafluorobenzene with H(CF2CF2)3CH2OH gives a low yield of dodecfluoroheptyl pentafluorophenyl ether. Reaction of an imidoyl amidine with acrylic anhydride has given a small quantity of 2,4-bis(pentafluoroethyl)-6-vinyl-1,3.5-triazine.
