- Abstract
- Smolder of cottons and rayons was found to be induced by adsorbed inorganic impurities, which may be largely removed by a water rinse. Compounds identified as promoting smolder included salts and hydroxides of monovalent metals, and salts of iron, chromium, and lead. These compounds were found to effect an increase in the yeild and reactivity of char formed during the pyrolysis of cellulosics.
