- Manufacturers' shipments of mattresses, bedsprings and sleep furniture amounted to $791 million during 1971. Shipments were highest in September with an estimated total of $77.6 million, followed by August shipments of $75.9 million. The largest single segment of the total shipments was inner-spring mattresses (except crib) which amounted to 10,277 thousant units valued at $311 million. The East North Central division followed by the Midle Atlantic division accounted for the largest dollar value of shipments of all the geographic divisions.
