Abstract
Most of the current smoke control research in the United States (U.S.) is being conducted at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). This paper provides a discussion of two major ongoing thrusts. One of the thrusts is forcused toward advancing the engineering application of concepts for smoke control system design under the special condition of steady state flow. Progress and major activities in this area are outlined. The other thrust is relatively new, and involves the long range development of computational methods for dynamic smoke control design as a component of a broader, more global approach.
