- Abstract
- [ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH] The existing building codes for fire-resistant structures prescribe the fire endurance of individual structural element, such as beams, columns, floors and so on, without concerning the use of buildings. Buildings have been designed against fire according to these codes. Researches on the behavior in compartments and of steel structures underfire have recently been developed, which made possible the design of buildings from the new point of view based on the results of these researches. The new approach to fire engineering design is to confirm the safety of buildings against fire for rational and economical countermeasures taken into account the conditions of each building despite the current building codes. This paper discusses the methods and results of the fire engineering design of the Ashiyahama Housing Project.
