Abstract
The unpigmented nitrocellulose which is used in various non-explosive industrial applications is exempted from all the current explosive regulations. A review has been made of these regulations and their present application. Over the period 1965 to 1967, 23 samples of powder were received from industry by E2 (Home Office) Branch, R.A.R.D.E. and examined. All samples were considered to posses explosive properties to varying degrees, although some were known to be unrepresentative of normal commercial production. Some of the factors thought to control hazard risk in these materials are discussed and recommendations are made for further work.
