Abstract
The calculations of fire endurance and the development of design aids to predict the fire endurance of prestressed beam elements initially can be separated into two uncoupled problems. The first is the transient thermal problem, that is, the flow of heat from a fire into the beam elements; the second is the structural analysis, that is the load carrying capacity and deflections of the beam as the time of exposure to the fire increases. This preliminary report is concerned primarily with the first problem, that is, the flow of heat through the beam element; since this was the part of the problem initially addressed.
