- Abstract
- A total of one hundred and thirty tests have been performed to date, and data have been obtained which contribute to the Evaluation of a Lightweight Fire Extinguishing System under Simulated Flight Conditions. These tests include the following: 1. Forty-one discharge-time tests filmed at high speed to determine the effects of line restrictions, agent type, and agent propelling forces on various quantities of agents. 2. Eighyt-nine extinguishing tests filmed at high speed to determine the effects of air velocity, engine temperature and agent quantity on the ability of the system to extinguish a jet engine fire. The fire used as a basis for comparison was provided by a flow of six gallons per minute of JP-4 jet engine fuel. 3. Engine fires were extinguished through automatic operation of the Lightweight Fire Extinguishing System by a Fenwal Surveillance Fire Detection System.
