Abstract
Carbon dioxide has been used for many years in the extinguishment of fires, especially fires involving electrically energized equipment and flammable liquid fires. uowever, until now, carbon dioxide enclosure flooding systems have not been as prevalent as halon systems because of the much higher carbon dioxide concentration required for extinguishment and prevention of reignition. The carbon dioxide concentration required for extinguishment (typically 40-50% vlume concentration) exceeds the hazard level for the survival of human beings.
