- Abstract
- A safety management training program was developed for occupational health nurses as a 12 to 15 hour course broken into several segments. Material to be included in the course was gathered from safety directors of area firms who employed occupational health nurses. The topics which were suggested included: the role of the occupational health nurse in the safety program; the relationship of OSHA to the occupational health nurse and the safety program; industrial hygiene and toxicology; accident investigaion, accident data analysis; accident causation; fire protection management; recordkeeping; safety motivation; safety training; standard compliance; workman's compensation; noise and noise control; and safety organization. Analysis of the course evaluations as offered by the students indicated that the occupational health nurse desires information regarding safety management, and that the manner in which the material was presented in this course made it easy for the trainee to gain an increased knowledge of the field of safety management.
