Abstract
[Abstract in English] A fire experiment of n-heptane was conducted using a small-sized tunnel to investigate its burning behavior. The width B and the length L of the tunnel were 0.6 m and 7.28 m respectively. The height H was changed in the range of 0.15-0.75 m in order to study the relation between burning rate and the height of the tunnel. Fuel surface areas Af were 112 cm2 (10.6 cm square) and 225 cm2 (15.0 cm square). Fuel burning rate became maximum when B-H3/2Af was about 8m1/2, and was nearly seven times larger than that in an open fire, due to radiant heat from the ceiling and the flame to the surface of fuel. then, the horizontal length of flame along the ceiling was nearly six times as large as the height of tunnel.
