- This report represents the results of a study that reviews the present state-of-the-art in computer modeling of the optimal egress problem uner emergency evacuation conditions. A total of 5 models have been presented for review and discussion. Each of the egress models has either been developed specifically for evacuation or is suitable for application to the emergency evacuation. It is not the purpose of this report to evaluate the modeling concepts or techniques of these models. The material presented here is intended to enhance the reader's understanding of the various state-of-the-art techniques in optimal egress modeling. Each ethodology and model has been reviewed according to the information available. This research was done under the sponsorship of Transportation System Center, U.S. Department of Transportation, Cambridge, Mass.
