Abstract
The aim of the project is to develop tools for predicting fire behavior on offshore oil rig installations. This report is a review of results from the project, and an evaluation of the performance of the developed calculation tools. The calculation tools evaluated are: KAMELEON FIRE O-3D, a field model for open pool fires, and three prediction tools for enclosed pool fires: empirical correlations, the zone model CFIRE-X and the three dimensional field model DAMELEON FIRE E-3D. Six open pool fires and eight enclosed pool fires are calculated by these fire simulation tools. The calculation tools can treat enclosed and open pool fires with forced or fire induced ventilation. Some main results from experiments with enclosed liquid pool fires are also included in this report. The results of experiments and calculations are compared to the state-of-the-art of modelling of hydrocarbon fires.
