- Abstract
- This report discusses the potential usefulness of thermal infrared sensors onboard NOAA polar-orbiting satellites for detecting fires. In particular, the 3.8-micro channel is sensitive to high temperature sources such as fires. This paper will demonstrate how the 3.8-micron channel may provide an efficient, economical means of detecting and monitoring range, forest, and tundra fires.
