Pentagon Building west bank of the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia, across from Washington, DC, September 11, 2001
Abstract
It is the largest office building in the world, and the home of the American military establishment. When it comes to war, these are the literal corridors of power. THE PENTAGON goes deep inside the distinctive headquarters of the Department of Defense with the men and women who work there (all 24,000 of them) and the people who know the massive complex best. Archival footage shows it under construction, and we'll follow its progress from the drawing board to today. Engineers reveal the reasons behind its unique shape and show off some of the innovative features that have helped the nearly 60-year-old headquarters handle the changing demands of its occupants over the decades. An all-access tour takes us to rooms rarely seen by the public, and new footage documents the destruction of the September 11th attack that scarred the Pentagon and claimed the lives of over 100 workers in the building.
