- Abstract
- This report provides a summary of NBS research and development activities concerning coal gasification and liquefaction over the period 1975-1980. These activities were predominantly conducted under the EPA/NBS Energy/Environment Program, and were stimulated by a Workshop convened at NBS to identify needs for SRM's for coal gasification and liquefaction, cosponsored with the US EPA. Recommendations, a list of the attendees, and manuscripts of papers for the Workshop are included in this report. The research accomplishments at NBS related to coal gasification and liquefaction processes are described, with particular emphasis on the development of SRM's, as well as on measurement methods that lead to the certification of values for trace elements and organic constituents for SRM development. Information on SRM's appropriate to the characterization of coals and products of coal combustion/conversion activities is also included. Finally, recommendations for future projects at NBS dealing with the development of measurement methods and SRM's for the characterization of raw materials and products associated with coal gasification and liquefaction are highlighted.
