- Abstract
- Readers of our journal are already familiar with estimations of possible wide-scale changes in the atmosphere which might occur as a result of a nuclear conflict. In this issue, we will acquaint the readers with yet another possible approach to studies of the climatic consequences of nuclear war. Calculations of the global and regional climatic changes resulting from the disturbance of the properties of the climatic system caused by powerful nuclear explosions and fires were made at the Computer Center of the Academy of Sciences, USSR. Apparently, even in the event of a local conflict, the meteorological and climatic changes will be catastrophic over enormous areas of the Earth. These data are a new serious warning to those who attempt to fill people with the idea of the relative safety of a nuclear strike. The authors of this article have repeatedly reported the results of their calculations in different forms in our country, in the USA, Italy, the Vatican, and Finland.
