- Abstract
- An investigation was conducted to determine the after-flaming effects of Nomex filament warp-knit flight suits. Fabric samples were tested at specific steps of the finishing process to determine if the finishes contributed to the after-flaming condition. The test results indicated that the fabric exhibits similar characteristics throughout all stages of the finishing process. It is recommended that additional work be performed to identify the cause of the after-flaming whether it is due to contaminants in the processing treatment, to absorption characteristics of knit structures, to unique behavior of knits in flame contact or other presently unsuspected causes.
