- Abstract
- There are a number of reasons for an evacuation of persons out of buildings as for instance fires, natural disasters, bomb attempts, any alarming situation a.s.o. The movement of any size of a group of persons in an escape system means a problem which depends not only on the individual parameter such as the anthropological dimension and the required size of space of one person (individual distance), but also on the escape way geometry (density of persons and speed). The escape way geometry in buildings is regularly controlled by the relevant construction rules which have been issued according to the specific requirements of the resp. country. For this reason they contain some deviating regulations on account of the specific historical development, and due to the relevant building character and the different experiences in each country. A common appearance of the basically very different requirements of the contruction regulations can be seen in the fact that the planning goal which is really important for the escape way planning, such as the evacuation time, is regularly not defined. Therefore, it seems to be suitable to check up the existing regulations with regard to the implicated prerequisites which are the basic requirements of the escape ways, by means of an evaluation method.
