- Abstract
- The most probable cause of the tragic fire described below was smoking material that ignited either paper in a trash can or bed sheets. Once ignition took place in a patient room in this modern, one-story hospital in Osceola, Missour, the combustible contents of the room produced an enormous amount of heat and smoke in only a few minutes. Although they had 11 fire drills during 1974, the staff members on duty were not prepared to react swiftly and efficiently to this fire.
