- The portable extinguisher is the most suitable and effecient fire-fighting instrument. It attacks the fire in its early stage and, therefore, prevents the damages that one of large dimensions may cause. Nevertheless, it will be our "allied" against danger only if we understand thoroughly how to use it properly. It is important that the portable fire extinguisher is approved. This will tell us that it fulfills the safety, opeating, handling homogeneity, discharge and efficiency minium conditions. The choice of the extinguisher agent is an important task before buying a protable fire extinguisher. The most recomendable agents for homes are: halons and polivalent dust. Once the extinguisher has been chosen, we must proceed to locate it. It is necessary to place them where they can be accessible at any and all times. Extinguishers do not operate by themselves; consequently, we must know how to use them. The maintenance of the portable fire extinguisher ought to be careful as it will work only once and it must work well.
