- Abstract
- A statistical survey of fire and explosion accidents in the U. S. Gulf of Mexico has been performed. The main source of data is the OCS Accident Investigation and Analysis Report. The causes, the development, and the consequences of the accidents have been considered. The three most important preventional measures suggested are: 1) Better and more frequent inspections; 2) Check and free more thoroughly for hydrocarbons before welding and cutting; and 3) Change venting of exhaust. Insulate hot surfaces.
