- Abstract
- An investigation was conducted to determine to what extent the installation of balconies and loggias at various angles of elevation from a noise source could improve the sound insulation of a facade wall. Measurements of the sound pressure level were first carried out on two types of facade, one incorporating traditional window joinery and the other incorporating sealed glazing. Following this, the sound insulation provided by facades fitted with open and closed balconies and loggias with and without sound absorbent materials applied was determined and compared with the previous measurements.
