Abstract
To improve fire fighting capabilities against hydrocarbon fires, a dual agent system was developed by the U.S. Naval Applied Science Laboratory, which combines dry chemical (to provide rapid knockdown of flames) and dry powder compatible foam (to provide a vapor securing blanket). These two agents are delivered through a uniquely designed gun (for one man operation), and preliminary tests indicate rapid extinguishment and security of large 3 dimensional hydrocarbon fires.
