- ONLY ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH In order to understand the radiation characteristics of large tank fires, total and local radiant emittance were measured in a crude oil 15 m square vessel fire using an IR camera. Comparing 15 m square vessel fire data and the smaller ones, size effects were found, that is, radiant emittance of flame was the highest in a 2.7 m square vessel fire among these size tests, because radiation was blocked in the 15 m square vessel tire due to a huge amount of smoke. It was also found that the radiant emittance was large at a very low part of the flame in the 15 m square vessel tire, which means most of total radiation to a target was emitted from the flame base. Therefore we should mainly consider irradiance from the low part of the flame for fire-fighting against a large oil tank fire.
