- Abstract
- Measurments of the vertical component of velocity in buoyant diffusion flames from extended sources by both cross-correlation and pressure proble techniques incorporating time-average signal processing appear to overestimate the transverse size of these systems based on a heat balance using measured mean flux. By utilizing measurements of the radiative fraction of the flames, and forcing a mean flux heat balance, estimates of the transverse variation of velocity are obtained and expressions for flame entrainment and convective heat flux are determined. The use of mean values is seen to lead to both overestimates as well as underestimates of total flux due to turbulent transport.
