Abstract
The 90th Congress amended the Flammable Fabrics Act of 1953 to authorize the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare in cooperation with the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a continuing study and investigation of deaths, injuries, and economic losses resulting from accidental burning of products, fabrics or related materials. The amended Act (PL 90-189) requires annual reports to the President and the Congress on these activities. The first such report was submitted by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare on August 14, 1969. This second report identifies activities authorized by the amended Act and performed by HEW during the period of March 1969 thorugh June 1970. Future reports will be submitted on a fiscal year basis covering the activities of the immediate past fiscl year. To provide a meaningful analysis, statistical data are generally presented on a cumulative basis. part IV of this report presents the details for this report period. Part V contains the statistical analysis of all data accumulated through June 1970.
