- Disclosed is a smolder resistant upholstered furniture or mattress assembly and a method for rendering the composite materials of such assembly smolder resistant. Placement of a layer of sulphur immediately adjacent a normally smolder-prone material in the composite effectively prohibits the advances of smoldering combustion to a dangerous stage.
