Abstract
This report deals with a basic study of the characteristics of an ASTM E84 tunnel test method. For getting a stable flame spread over the red oak, 130 1/min (5700 Btu/min) of town gas (11,000 kcal/m(3)) was supplied for the fuel and 50 1/min of oxygen at the burner in addition to air when air flow was controlled at a speed of 1.7m/sec. in the ventilation duct. It is seen that for a 5,700 Btu/min burner energy release rate, more than 2,000 Btu/min is lost before station A (4.5m apart from the burner) and an additional 950 Btu/min loss is incurred between station A and B (vent end).
