Abstract
The intensity of traffic jam conditions in the big cities and municipalities of developed countries has an increasing tendency all the times. Consequently, new car parks have to be constructed and provided in order to meet the demands for manifoldly increasing free car park areas. However, free areas are scarce and should be mainly reserved to keep the balance for recreational environment. This can be achieved either above ground through multi-storey car parks or underground car parks as well. Car parks built in structural steel are eminently suited to fulfil these various demands. The decisive factor is obviously the commercial viability thorughout the whole life span of the building. An important role is played not merely by the construction cost, but also by the length of the construction period, the average rate of usage taking into account medium term traffic planning.
