Abstract
[Abstract in English] Smoke is detected through the measurement of light extinction. Extremely high sensitivity is realised through the use of an integrated optical circuit. Four light paths with 50-micron feature size are embedded in a glass chip; one path is interrupted by a 25 mm air path which allows for the measurement of light extinction. Light emitters and receivers are attached externally by an on-line method to the ports of the light paths. The sensitivity of the device is demonstrated experimentally and is compared to other optical measurement devices.
