- The high fashion houses of Paris, the bustling garment district of New York's 7th Avenue, and the textile mills of the South seem far removed from the tranquility of the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, MD. But people in each of these sectors of the multi-million-dollar fabric and garment industry are focusing attention on NBS. Why? Because what Americans are wearing in the 1980's may be influenced by work performed by NBS' Center for Fire Research.
