Abstract
On December 4th, a large fire experiment occured at the Building Research Institute near Tokyo in Japan. Dr. Shin'ichi Sugawara and Dr. Yuji Hasemi, from BRI, were the supervisors of the operations and some NIST people, Dr. Vytenis Babrauskas and Kenneth Steckler, took part in this project. A three-story building was submitted to vibrations similar to those of an earthquake. Then, they initiated a fire in it to test its resistance. According to previous experiments and calculations, the building was supposed to resist at least one hour. The test was successful since only three rooms of the building reached flashover after 60 minutes (flashover temperature considered: 500 deg C). It seemed interesting to run a simulation of this experiment with CFAST 1.5.0 since this software can run a simulation of a large experiment and since a lot of data had been collected. This following report contains different simulations of the fire test and discussions about the results.
